ATV Safety Tips for Safe Riding

ATV Safety Tips

Stay Safe While Riding Your ATV

When it comes to off-road fun, riding an ATV out on the trails can be a lot of fun.  ATV safety is hugely important whether you are an experienced ATV rider or just getting into it.  Some states set strict rules for ATV use; others are a lot freer.  Here are has some ATV Safety Tips to keep you safe on your ATV excursions.

Meet the Age Requirements

It is perfectly legal for unlicensed teens to ride ATVs in many states; please ride with adult supervision if you are under 16 years old.  The physical demands of riding an ATV can be intense and most likely too difficult for someone younger than 16 on many trails.  Quick turns and speeding up and slowing down familiar while on an ATV require quick decision-making that inexperienced drivers can easily struggle with.

Wear the Right Gear

Make sure you wear appropriate gear that will keep you safe out on the trails.  Make sure to wear a:

  • Helmet
  • Goggles
  • Boots
  • Body Amor

It only takes one lousy fall without your helmet to potentially change your life or worse.

Remember when riding, there is a lot of dirt and other debris thrown in the air; your eyes are very fragile, eye protection is a must.

Like riding a motorcycle, at a minimum, you should wear long pants and long sleeves.  Better yet, invest in Body Armor to protect your ribs and back in the event of a nasty fall.  It is common to tip an ATV, so scrapes are easily avoided with good body armor

Boots are the highly recommended type of footwear for riding an ATV.  If your ATV tips over or you suffer some accident, tennis shoes just do not provide the critical protection to your feet.  Motorcross boots are highly recommended as they are stiff and usually go up to almost your knees.

Follow the Rules

Know the rules of the trial.  Don’t go too fast because this can cause your vehicle to become unstable and lead to accidents.  Get to know the laws in your state regarding age, carrying passengers, and safety certification requirements before you head out on your ATV.

Proper Maintenance is Important
